Word of God Sunday
In 2019, Pope Francis instituted Word of God Sunday as a day to focus on the essential nature of Sacred Scripture for our lives as Catholics. He established the celebration in his document Aperuit illis, drawing heavily on the end of Luke’s Gospel and the Second Vatican Council document Dei Verbum. In Aperuit illis, Pope Francis reminds all Catholics that Word of God Sunday is meant to be a launching pad for incorporating Sacred Scripture into our daily life, letting it guide our actions. Word of God Sunday is on the Third Sunday of Ordinary Time, falling between January 21-27.
