Sts. Philip and James
Patron Saints of Uruguay
Sts. Philip and James share a feast day because their relics were brought to Rome at the same time. As there were two Apostles named James, this feast celebrates James, Son of Alphaeus, also known as St. James the Lesser. Not much is known about his life except that he was one of the Apostles. St. Philip is mentioned more in the Gospels. Philip, like many of the Apostles, took a long time to realize who Jesus truly was, but then worked to spread Christ’s message after His Resurrection. Sts. Philip and James serve as examples of ordinary men who became foundations of the Church.
