St. Athanasius
Patron Saint of Theologians
St. Athanasius, also known as Athanasius the Great and Athanasius the Confessor, was the Bishop of Alexandria off and on for 45 years in the mid 300s. Throughout these 45 years, Athanasius was exiled five separate times. He spent his time in exile writing and working on his defense against Arianism, a heresy denying the divinity of Christ. Even with his arduous exiles, Athanasius stayed true to the Faith, and each time came back willing to lead the people of Alexandria. Athanasius is also known for his theological teachings on the Incarnation and the Holy Trinity and today is remembered as a Doctor of the Church.
