St. Joseph the Worker
Patron Saint of Workers
The feast of St. Joseph the Worker celebrates the dignity of work as modeled by St. Joseph. We know that Joseph was a carpenter and passed on his skills to Jesus. St. Joseph serves as an example of the holiness of labor to all those who are employed. Through our own work, God calls us to be examples of holiness to our coworkers and to realize the dignity of all human work. Pope Pius XII added the feast of St. Joseph the Worker in 1955, and Pope John Paul II frequently spoke about the dignity of workers in his homilies on the feast.
