St. Thomas, Apostle

Patron Saint of India

St. Thomas was one of the Twelve Apostles and is often referred to as "Doubting Thomas" due to his skepticism in seeing the resurrected Christ in John's Gospel. After the events of the Gospels, tradition holds that Thomas traveled beyond the Jewish and Roman world, sailing to India to preach the Good News. He successfully laid the foundation for many of today’s Christian communities in India and the rest of South Asia. He was martyred around 72 AD. Thomas is the patron saint of India and his feast is celebrated with festivals by Indian Christians.
