St. Mary Magdalene de Pazzi
Patron Saint of Bodily Ills
St. Mary Magdalene de’Pazzi was an Italian Carmelite nun who experienced several episodes of ecstasy. Although her parents intended for her to be married, Mary recognized God had a different plan for her, so she entered the Carmelite Order. Because of an intense illness, she took her vows on what was believed to be the eve of her death, but she lived for six more years. During these years, she recorded different details of her ecstatic episodes. Even as a mystic, she recognized her obligations to her community and was faithful in fulfilling her duties. St. Mary Magdalene de’Pazzi died in 1607 when she was 41 and was canonized in 1669.
