St. Isidore the Farmer
Patron Saint of Farmers
St. Isidore the Farmer was born in 1070 in Madrid. He was born into a very poor family, but learned the faith from his parents and was named after St. Isidore of Seville. At a young age, he became a farmer. He married Maria Torribia, also known as María de la Cabeza in Spain. Together they had a son, and lived a holy life. St. Isidore would attend Mass every morning before going into the fields. As he worked, St. Isidore would pray, dedicating himself to a life of work and prayer. He died in the mid 1100s and was canonized in 1622; his wife was beatified in 1697. St. Isidore is the patron saint of farmers, and many rural Spanish speaking communities have festivals for his feast day.
