Mary, Mother of the Church
The Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, was added to the liturgical calendar in 2018. The day celebrates the Blessed Mother under the title officially conferred upon her during the Second Vatican Council. The feast recognizes Mary standing at the foot of the cross when Jesus gives us Mary as the Mother of the Church. As St. John Paul II once remarked, "[the title] reflects the deep conviction of the Christian faithful, who see in Mary not only the mother of the person of Christ, but also of the faithful."
