Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
The Feast of Christ the King was instituted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI in his encyclical Quas primas. Pope Pius XI grounded the feast in both Scripture and writings of Early Church Fathers. In Quas primas, Pope Pius XI states that Christ is our king, not any political entity. This was in response to many anti-Catholic political movements of the day. On this solemnity we are encouraged to live out our faith in the public sphere at all times, regardless of political situation. Today, may we be encouraged to let Christ transform our entire being and let Him reign in our minds, our wills, and our bodies.
