St. Thomas Aquinas
Patron Saint of Colleges
St. Thomas Aquinas was born in 1225 in the Kingdom of Sicily. He was born into an extremely powerful and wealthy family who wanted hum to join the Benedictines. Instead, Aquinas joined the Dominicans so he could live a life of study and scholarship. Aquinas became a Doctor of the Church and the father of Thomism, a school of thought that built upon the Aristotelian basis of the existence and reason of God. Aquinas’ most famous work, the unfinished Summa Theologica, is still one of the most influential texts in the Church today. “Grant me, O Lord my God, a mind to know you, a heart to seek you, wisdom to find you, conduct pleasing to you, faithful perseverance in waiting for you and a hope of finally embracing you.” -St. Thomas Aquinas
