St. Rose Philippine Duchesne

Patron Saint of Perseverance and Overcoming Adversity

Rose Philippine Duchesne was born in 1769 and was a French religious sister in the Visitation of Mary convent. After the French Revolution, she merged her floundering order with the Religious Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She followed her dream as a missionary sister in the United States, founding the congregations first American communities. She established schools and ministered to both settlers and Native Americans in Missouri and Kansas, which then was the far western frontier of the United States.
