St. Pauline of the Agonizing Heart of Jesus
St. Pauline of the Agonizing Heart of Jesus was the first Brazilian female saint when she was canonized in 2002. She was born in 1865 in Austria-Hungary but moved to Brazil in 1875. In her adulthood, she began to care for women with cancer in her Brazilian community. As her work continued, she founded a religious community to care for the sick and orphans in Brazil. She also suffered from diabetes throughout her life, but she did not let her health struggles deter her work working for women and vulnerable persons in Brazil. While not an official patron saint, Pauline is a role model for living a saintly life while suffering from diabetes.
