St. Matthew the Apostle
Patron Saint of Accountants, Actors, Bankers, and Tax Collectors
St. Matthew the Apostle was the writer of the Gospel of Matthew, thus placing him among the Four Evangelists of the first generation of the Church. Before accompanying Jesus during his years of public ministry, Matthew was a tax collector. According to the Gospel, Matthew was working at a collection booth in Capernaum when Jesus came to him and said, “Follow me.” Through this simple act of obedience, Matthew became a disciple of Christ. St. Matthew is the patron saint of accountants, bookkeepers, and tax collectors.
