St. Luke

Patron Saint of Artists, Painters, and Doctors

St. Luke was an evangelist in the early Church, best known for his Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles. Luke’s Gospel is known as being written for those who weren’t first Jewish before becoming Christians. Its universal appeal to all remains applicable to us today. St. Luke’s symbol is the winged ox, which represents sacrifice, service, and strength. Based on anecdotes in Biblical stories, we know that Luke was a physician and an artist, showing the great diversity of professions in early Christians. Thus, St. Luke is a patron saint of physicians, artists, and notaries.
