St. Alphonsus Liguori
Patron saint of Lawyers, Vocations, and Confessors
St. Alphonsus Liguori was born in Naples in 1696. At just the age of 16, he received doctorates in civil and canon law. After leaving his career as a lawyer, he was ordained a priest in 1726. In 1732, he began the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, known as the Redemptorists, which focused on missionary work in rural areas. He is known for his moral theology and wrote several works on subjects including priests as confessors and the glories of the Blessed Virgin Mary. At the age of 66, he was made bishop. He was canonized by Pope Gregory XVI and was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1871. He is the patron saint of confessors.
