Bl. Richard Henkes
Bl. Richard Henkes was a priest and member of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallottines), from the early 1920s until his death in a concentration camp. Throughout his preaching in the 1930s, he often spoke out against the Nazi Party and their actions. Even after being arrested and released once, Henkes continued to preach against the atrocities committed by the Nazi Party, valuing the importance of the truth. His opposition led to him being arrested again and ultimately he was sent to the Dachau concentration camp in 1943. A year into being imprisoned, Richard Henkes volunteered to work in Block XVII to minister to inmates who had contracted typhus. Fr. Henkes would later die in Dachau due to his exposure to typhus, and is considered a martyr for the faith.
