Bl. Fra Angelico

Patron Saint of Artists

Bl. Fra Angelico was an Italian Dominican friar in the fifteenth century known for his incredible ability as a painter as well as his personal holiness. From an early age, he was a practicing artist. Even with his thriving career as a painter, he decided to join the Dominicans. Rather than hampering his painting career, this decision enabled him to continue to be one of the most successful painters of the Early Renaissance period. He combined his painting ability with his Dominican charism, painting whatever his superiors asked of him. Some of his most famous pieces are The Madonna of Humility and the San Marco Altarpiece. His life can be a model for us, revealing that we can live our faith while being incredibly successful in our career—leaving a lasting impact on the world through our vocation.
